Blown Film

Film produced by extruding resin into a tube, which is expanded by air pressure.

BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene)

A film that has been stretched under certain temperature conditions equally in both the machine and transverse directions. This film is extremely clear in appearance, very stiff, stable and rigid in composition. This film is used for presentation and appearance.

Bottom Seal

Poly bags or sleeves that have a heat seal across the width at the bottom of the bag are manufactured by making a seal about 1/4" up from the bottom.

Bubble

The inflated tube of film in the blown film Extrusion process.

Center folded Film

A film folded in half in the machine direction and then wound into roll form.

Center folder

A device used to produce center folded film from flat film.

Clarity

The degree of transparency for film.

CMYK

Is an acronym for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black inks. The four colors used for process printing.

Co-extruded Film

Is a flexible packaging material consisting of two or more different materials that are layered within a single ply during the extrusion process.

COF (Coefficient of Friction)

In plastics films, indicates the ease with which a film surface is slid against like film or adjacent surface. A low value (near zero) indicates a slippery; a high value (7 or more) indicates a tacky film, which will stick to itself.

Copolymer

This is more than one plastic polymerized together at the same time.

Core

A paper tube used as a base for forming a roll of film. (PVC cores are used for clean room applications).

Corona treatment

A surface treatment which alters the film’s surface with an electrical discharge that prepares the surface for printing.
